Letter from the President

January 2022

Greetings AMGO Members,

Greetings AMGO Members,

Hello and Happy New Year!  I sincerely hope that you and yours had a happy and healthy holiday season.  This organization, and most of all, each and every one of you have always been my greatest inspiration in every aspect of the work that I do.

I have no doubt that you all are experiencing the heavy impact of the Omicron virus.  Here at UC San Diego we're having historically high numbers of positive testing and are experiencing severe staffing shortages across all our health systems.  I sincerely hope that we will see the predicted “peak” in the next few weeks so that we can begin to see the waning of this pandemic.

I want to thank everyone who attended our virtual meeting on November 4th, 2021.  It was wonderful to see your faces and it felt so good to re-connect.  We were delighted to introduce our newest AMGO members and we had a robust discussion during our Rapid-Fire Q & A session.  Gail Kelly provided a tutorial on how to navigate our new website, and I’d like to encourage everyone to take a few minutes to become familiar with our website, as it has a lot to offer new and old members alike.  www.amgo.org

One of the most valued benefits of membership is our Discussion Forum where members can collaborate and connect, while allowing us to capture and collect new ideas. Remember that this powerful tool is here for you! The forum provides a safe, reliable and honest place to solicit information and generate new knowledge to solve problems. This is the place to seek assistance and find support from colleagues across the country and ask them about how they approach common practice, employment or other issues confronting them in their institution's Department of OBGYN. What I love most about AMGO is being able to learn from the deep knowledge base & expertise of our members.

Another way to share knowledge is with individual articles written by members.  Have you written a work-related article lately for your own department or health system? Maybe you started a new program and are willing to share the successes and steps that it took to make it a reality?  Please consider submitting your article to me or Gail Kelly, and we will post it on our website. "Sharing is Caring" - and we could all use a little more of that!

I look forward to reconnecting with all of you in Chicago in September 2022.

Best,

Susie Guidi

 Greetings AMGO Members:

I am honored to serve as your President for the upcoming year. Our AMGO organization provides the opportunity to connect administrators from across the country who are leading the future of Women’s Healthcare with the following objectives:

➢ To promote the concept of professional management

➢ To provide a forum for discussion of management problems

➢ To provide a mechanism for exchange of information

To interact with other academic organizations in accomplishing these goals

As an update, here is the outcome of the officer elections held on Monday April 29th, 2019  at our business meeting as part of the 43rd annual AMGO meeting held in San Antonio, Texas:

Elected

President‐Elect: Kara Mulligan, University of Wisconsin

Vice President: Krista Hollinger, University of California-Irvine

Treasurer: Joe English, Duke University

Secretary: Jody Yeh, Medical University of South Carolina

Continuing to Serve (not up for election):

Immediate Past President: Rick Blum, University of Nebraska Medical Center

Director-at-Large: Gail Kelly, University of Minnesota

As usual, we received many accolades from everyone that attended the conference in San Antonio, and we are hopeful that you will be back in 2020! We received a record 38 Survey Monkey responses, and appreciate all of the comments and suggestions. These will assist the

2020 Program Committee with their planning. The meeting will be held in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, at the beautiful Viceroy Hotel, April 26th‐April 29th, 2020.

The Viceroy Hotel, Chicago

I am pleased to announce that Pam Funke, University of Iowa, and Shelley Opilla, University of South Florida, have agreed to Co‐Chair the annual meeting Program Committee. I look forward to working with this distinguished group of AMGO colleagues who will be planning our 2020 conference:

Valerie Brown, Stanford University School of Medicine
Shannon Dreier, Medical College of Wisconsin
Erika Lindley, University of Utah
Victor Marques, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School
Michael Morales, University of California, San Diego
Jim Morgridge, Duke University
Kirstin Runa, University of Colorado
Melissa Schuermann, Emory University

I want to send a huge shout out and “Thank You” to all who contributed to the successful meeting in San Antonio, especially to Joe English and Jody Yeh who Co‐Chaired the 2019 conference. Their Program Committee consisted of Rick Blum, Shannon Dreier, Meg Ferris, Pam Funke, Dale Geerdes, Jodi Harris, Erika Lindley, Mike Morales, Angie Rinehart, Kirstin Runa and Melissa Schuermann. We had 50 members attend, 9 of which were first‐time attendees. Wasn’t Heather Woody fabulous? I don’t know about all of you, but I have already used what I learned about effectively confronting conflict, and boy did it feel good!

As a reminder, if you know of a peer who is not a member, please help by encouraging them to reach out to us. They can contact any of our directors, orsguidi@ucsd.edu, 858‐249‐1201. The more members we have, the better for all of us in order to hear perspectives from around the country. Please be sure to let prospective members know that first year dues are not payable until the next calendar year, a savings of $300.

Lastly, I want to thank Rick Blum for his excellent governance of our association over the past year. Rick always leads with professionalism, and humor-two valuable assets to have in the workplace!

Thank you all!

Yours Sincerely,

Susie Guidi
