Letter from the President

September 2022

 Greetings AMGO Members,

Hello and happy Fall!  I sincerely hope that you and yours had a wonderful summer and are embracing the shorter,  cooler, and crisper days ahead.

I want to thank everyone who attended our incredible conference in Chicago from Sept 25-28.  It was wonderful to see everyone in person again, and it felt so good to re-connect.  We were delighted to introduce our newest AMGO members and we had not only incredible speakers, but also very robust discussions during our two Rapid-Fire Q & A sessions.  During our annual business meeting, Gail Kelly provided a tutorial on how to navigate our new website, and Treasurer Joe English gave a great summary of our secure financial situation. We also voted in our new slate of officers: Joe English (Duke - President-Elect), Jody Yeh (Medical University of South Carolina – Vice President), Majik Abidzhanova (University of Colorado – Treasurer), Victor Marquez (Rutgers University - Secretary), and Gail Kelly (Retired – Member at Large). If you are looking for a way to get more involved in and connected to AMGO, we’d love to welcome you on the 2023 Conference Planning Committee. This committee will be lead by Michael Morales from UCSD   and  already promises to be a fun group of colleagues preparing the agenda, speakers and events of our next annual meeting. If you are interested, please reach out to Michael or me.

I’d like to encourage everyone to take a few minutes to become familiar with our website, as it has a lot to offer new and old members alike: www.amgo.org. One of the most valued benefits of membership is our Discussion Forum where members can collaborate and connect, while allowing us to capture and collect new ideas. Remember that this powerful tool is here for you! The forum provides a safe, reliable and honest place to solicit information and generate new knowledge to solve problems. This is the place to seek assistance and find support from colleagues across the country and ask them about how they approach common practice, employment or other issues confronting them in their institution's Department of ObGyn. What I love most about AMGO is being able to learn from the deep knowledge base and expertise of our members. This organization, and most of all, each and every one of you have always been my greatest inspiration in every aspect of the work that I do.

Another way to share knowledge is with individual articles written by members.  Have you written a work-related article lately for your own department or health system? Maybe you started a new program and are willing to share the successes and steps that it took to make it a reality?  Please consider submitting your article to me or Gail Kelly, and we will post it on our website, or even ask you to consider presenting it at our next annual meeting. Speaking of which, at our annual conference in Chicago, it was announced that our 2023 conference will take place at the beautiful Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort on Hilton Head Island. The property is absolutely gorgeous and each room is a suite, complete with kitchenette, seating area and balcony – a perfect getaway for a couple, entire family or friends alike.

I look forward to chatting with you all via the Discussion Forum in the days and months to come, and reconnecting with all of you on Hilton Head Island in September 2023.

Take care,
